Modern Backstrap Coyunchi Cotton Huipil

Modern Backstrap Coyunchi Cotton Huipil

Quite possibly the most iconic piece of clothing in Mexico, the huipil is simultaneously high fashion, every day wear, and a revered garment that is used locally in ceremonial events. Various communities throughout Mexico maintain their own signature designs, as they have since pre-Hispanic times. Our custom piece is woven by hand on a traditional backstrap loom using a mix of white cotton and handspun organic coyuchi in natural dark camel. It is then assembled by hand on the sides and neck with handspun coyuchi thread. This exquisite piece is lightweight, great for layering, and showcases three simple stripes of coyuchi, along with a delicate twist design for the horizontal stripes.

One size fits many. Given the nature of handmade, sizes, designs and hues may vary slightly from the featured product image.
