heidi anderson ceramics
Heidi Anderson is the creator of the protector figures who are wheel thrown and then formed and sculpted with added embellishments individually cut from clay. She uses the color of the clay as the main decorative element in her work; colors that lend themselves to the California landscapes and desert scapes that inspire her greatly. A variety of earth-toned clays are used in her pieces; from deep browns and reds to light speckled off-whites.
Glaze is used sparingly in her work, and she relies mostly on the clay to inform and inspire her. Her pieces use iron oxide stain, low fire color glazes, and more recently, the minimal use of a gold luster glaze. The iron oxide has a beautiful metallic sheen and lends a graphic contrast to her designs and the gold luster creates a sense of illumination, timeless purity, and light.
